101 in 1001 - Part One

I'm still struggling with my 101 in 1001 list--partly because the list I already created on the Day Zero Project website is still MIA, but mostly because my goals range from 15-minutes-and-I'm-done projects to something I'm expecting myself to do every single day--for over 3 years. As usual, I think I've bitten off a little more than I can chew.

So my list won't be posted all at once, but piece by piece--to keep you guessing just a little bit--but mostly to keep myself from being overwhelmed.

Take #1 on my list: Learn how to use the self-timer on my camera. This was prompted partly by my involvement in the 365 self-portrait challenge (The self-portrait challenge), Of course, I didn't expect it to be so easy! Completed: January 9, 2011. Google the model number of my Canon point-and-shoot; search for the topic in the manual; and press a few buttons. Check!

Compare this to #51: Laugh out loud every single day. With hysterically funny sites flooding the internet, I thought this goal would be incredibly good for me, but also a cinch. Not so! My total as of today? 2 days out of 1001. (I'm dying here.) The lesson? Looking for laugh-worthy situations is good for me, but I can't force it completely. Future plan: Discover ways to engage with people, places and things that make me laugh. And for now, some days I'll be satisfied with just a chuckle in response to a sarcastic comment on a Facebook post.

#70 is hard to measure as well: Refill medication BEFORE I need it! I'm embarrassed to admit it, but despite ultra-high doses of pain meds and antidepressants with withdrawal effects so strong that I notice by the end of the day if I've missed my morning dose, I still leave refills until it's nearly too late--when I have just one pill left, or when I took the final one the day before.

Living on the edge, for me at least. But I'm heartened by the fact that I accomplished this goal for the first time already--starting the new year off being responsible for my own health rather than expecting someone else to do it for me.

For a long day, and with another photo still to take, I'm calling it a day (or should I be calling it a night?) No doubt someone will find all the typos I've missed in this half-asleep post. Perhaps I should begin, rather than end, my day with blogging!

Thanks for reading, all, and sleep tight!
